The iPad & Therapy Operations: Is Your Software Capable?
Limited Use Therapy Software Applets: Not Always the Right Solution
Some months back, our clients were asking about using iPads with CarePoint, our server based therapy software application. After doing extensive research and developing a few applets, we found that using tablet based applets can be quite limiting because only a small portion of the application can realistically run directly on a tablet or iPad.
The Right Solution: Using iPads & Tablet PC's In Therapy Operations
After further research, we found and implemented the right solution. Namely, you can access our fully featured application over the Internet with an iPad using “thin client technology.” This technology allows users to connect securely to a server based application over the Internet using Remote Desktop or Citrix Neighborhood software. The benefits of accessing our application directly over the Internet as compared to using a limited use therapy software applet on an iPad are two-fold.
Firstly, users have real-time access to the latest patient information and other clinical and operational data on their central database.
Secondly, users have real-time access to all of the software features that they normally use on their server without having to be trained to use the applet.
This solution works “right out of the box.” Simply download the tablet version of Remote Desktop or Citrix Neighborhood and you are done. If you have an iPad, go to the Apple Store and download these free apps.
Don’t Settle: Get the Best of Both Worlds
Our application provides users with tools to plan, schedule, and enter treatments; create clinical documentation, track outcomes, optimize RUG’s levels, and run quality control and compliance edits. Add our clinical and operational reporting capabilities and you have one powerful therapy management software application.
The iPad is compact, easy to use, and portable. It’s a great "point of service" tool to record treatments and clinical documentation. The touch screen interface is slick, you can use both hands at the same time, and it works well with the drop down lists, point and click features, and copy functions of CarePoint.
You can "size" the screen view and expand a specific "on screen" work area to focus on. Best of all, you can use all of our software features including documentation in "real time" unlike other limited use therapy software applets available today.
Why settle for less? You can combine all of the powerful compliance and operational management features of your therapy software application with the ease of use, portability, and flexibility of an iPad using a Remote Desktop or Citrix Neighborhood connection.
